Broom

By using a broom, you can keep your home neat and clean. It is a cleaning appliance, which comes with stiff parallel fibers attached to a cylindrical shaped handle. Usually, it is used with a combination of a dustpan.

History of Broom

During the invention of broom, it was known as “besma”, which literally means “bundle of twigs”. Advanced modern brooms are made of broomcorn, a special type of grass. In modern days, broom handles are made of synthetic materials or plastic.

How Brooms Are Prepared

In early days broom twigs were made from leaves or branches, but using brooms with them was little tough. After that, these branches and leaves were replaced by broomcorn, a grass type, which is better known as broom twig.

Coming to broom handles, wooden sticks were used as broom handles in early days. These bulky and rough wooden sticks or branches were little heavier that made usage of broom difficult. Later in modern days, handles of broom are made of plastic, which are very smooth, good looking, and light weight. All the broom twigs are attached to one end of broom handle, which allows the user to sweep on any surface. Using these brooms is very much easy and simpler than the earlier brooms and you can find brooms in any ultra model building. Few professional industrial brooms have rubber or wire teeth.

Standard Broom Types

Traditionally, brooms are available plenty of types. Let’s take a quick look at all of them.

• Besom broom: It is a bunch of broom twigs
• Flat broom: It has an evenly-trimmed, flat bottom. This is a classic broom and widely used broom too.
• Angled broom: It is similar to the flat broom. However, it is differed with that by a cut at a place to allow use to sweep easily.
• Push broom: It is usually bit wider and thicker. To sweep, the user has to push the broom. Generally, it is used to sweep in large areas.
• Whisk broom: It has a small handle and it is used to clean vehicles.
• Fan broom: It is used to sweep at the fireside.
• Turkey-wing broom: It is a longer broom and wider too than a fan broom.
• Camper broom: It has a small handle; otherwise it is pretty much similar to the regular brooms.

Strange Brooms

• Vacuum Cleaner is considered to be an electric broom, which is used to clean by sucking the atmosphere’s air very strongly. These brooms are rechargeable and cordless. \
• Snow brooms are developed to sweep, drag, or push snow on vehicles. Generally, they have handles, which telescope. The associated brushes are replaced by traditional brooms with a homogenous material.
• A power broom has a power shove. When shovel cleans snow, the power broom cleans debris and leaves.

Pros and Cons of Brooms

Standard wooden brooms are bulkier and heavier, but they also very powerful and can perform better than other brooms. Weight of brooms gives momentum and stability, whereas hollow aluminum brooms are low weight but break easily at the same time.
